Industrial Technology
Carthage Tigers 7th/8Th Grade
Introduction
Welcome to the Industrial Technology course at the Carthage Junior High. I am looking forward to an exciting and fun year as we explore and learn a variety of aspects and processes involved in the fields of woodworking, construction, home / building repair and maintenance. During this class students will use critical thinking, problem solving, reading, and evaluation techniques while designing and creating individual projects.
Each student will be required to complete a minimum of two projects per semester. The cost of these projects will be dependent upon the project.
Areas of Instruction
-Shop safety (safety rules and procedures)
-Proper safety and use of various hand tools (including power hand tools)
-Safe operation, use, and maintenance of power equipment.
-Measurement
-Orthographic drawings (project plans)
-Types of joints and when to use them
-Construction of projects
-Finishing steps and procedures
Classroom Policies
Students are expected to come to class prepared, be respectful of others and their property, practice restraint, self-control, and be responsible for their actions. The Junior High Student Handbook further outlines disciplinary guidelines as well as the manner in which students may earn rewards throughout the year. Students will receive additional classroom procedure information during the first few days of classes.
Textbooks
The students will not be assigned a textbook with this class. However, we will be utilizing four different classroom sets of textbooks for various phases of instruction throughout the semester.
Supplies
Students must have the following materials for Career Technology class
-One two pocket, 3-prong folder (used exclusively for shop class)
-notebook paper (no spiral notebooks)
-pencil
-black or blue ink pen
-student’s Tiger Tracker Planner (school issued)
-1 box of facial tissue, turned in to teacher (to be used as needed throughout the school year)
I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my students and their parents as the year progresses. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have regarding this class or your student.
Sincerely,
Randy Evans
